The Role of Websites in Internet Marketing
One of the reasons why would-be marketers remain hesitant in starting their own online business is the lack of a website with which to start marketing products and services, whether these products & services be through an affiliate program or not. So the question of whether or not a website is required or necessary in order to market on the Internet can be answered in two ways.
First, it is true and has been proven that marketing on the Internet can be successfully done without a website through such methods as eBook Marketing, PPC, Blogging (although this is done via a web page), and article writing and distribution (Article Marketing); and other methods that include the use of mobile phones like SMS.
Second, they are certain types of marketing with which it would be ill-advised to attempt without a website, such as email marketing campaigns, banner & text link advertising for various affiliate programs, free product offers and downloads, affiliate marketing only, eCommerce marketing, which includes eStores, (etailers) Web Stores, mega stores, marketing with video presentations, and article content publishing (free content to attract visitors/readers who may be interested in the subject matter), plus a few others that you may want to add.
The important thing to consider is this: If you're just starting out and have very little experience in the Internet marketing arena, the methods of Internet marketing that don't require a website could very well be more advanced than you are able to do, with the possible exception of blogging. eBook Marketing requires you to either write the ebooks or rebrand ebooks written by other marketers. PPC (Pay-Per_Click) costs money which you may not have as a newcomer to IM. Article Marketing entails writing the articles, submitting them to distribution companies and generating traffic back to your merchant's product page. So unless you know your way around the Internet, the skill necessary to succeed with these activities will take some time to develop.
You will hear people say that marketing can be done on the Internet without a website to start out with, and as mentioned above, the answer to this question is yes, one can really start promoting and marketing products & services without a website; But, the ways on how this can be done are not as simple as some folks (many marketers included) may lead you to believe. The process of creating a website has been greatly simplified in the last five years. the technology (most notably "drag and drop") has improved and made it possibly for many newcomers to create and launch a website without all the problems that existed before.
